FAQ's
There are so many joint supplements on the market, how do I know what works?
We know – that’s a tough question!
The main difference in the Four Sixes Joint Health Pellets is that this product was formulated by a PhD equine nutritionist, using research-supported ingredients at levels that have been scientifically demonstrated to have a benefit. While other joint supplements may include similar ingredients, they’re often at levels too low to make an impact.
This formulation was created to maximize efficacy of all ingredients to support joint function and recovery in working and performance horses.
Why does this product contain a postbiotic? Isn’t that just for gut health?
It’s true that postbiotics (like the Saccharomyces cerevisiae in this formula) are most often used in gut health supplements.
However, there is new scientific evidence that postbiotics also support a healthy inflammatory response in joints, and are therefore able to help maintain the ever-important articular cartilage that is one of the most crucial components of your horse’s joint capsule.
How long will it take to see benefits from Four Sixes Joint Health Pellets?
As with most equine supplements, it takes the horse's gastrointestinal tract approximately seven days to adapt to a change. It takes the horse's body an additional 21 days to metabolically adapt. Because the equine joints are complex, it may take up to 60 days to see maximum benefit from a joint supplement, although many horse trainers and horse owners report that their horses seem to benefit sooner.
What is Boswellia serrata?
Boswellia serrata is a tree native to India that contains beneficial terpenes.
Terpenes is a fancy term for compounds found in plants that are responsible for the plants’ aroma. However, some terpenes also have biological benefits.
Those in Boswellia serrata help support normal inflammatory responses that are beneficial joints that are under normal wear and tear from aging, exercise, and stress.
Legend has it that Boswellia was first discovered in ancient India by Ayurvedic healers who observed elephants eating the Boswellia serrata trees that grow in that region. Elephants love to eat the bark and leaves of the Boswellia tree! They also rub against it, which causes them to secrete a thick, sticky substance called "gum." It is believed that elephants eat this beneficial gum because it helps relieve joint stiffness and discomfort.
These healers already knew about elephants’ incredible endurance and vitality, so they began to use Boswellia for its suspected health benefits.
What is Cetyl Myristoleate?
Cetyl myristoleate is a fatty acid ester that was discovered in 1972 by a scientist investigating degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis or OA).
When attempting to induce osteoarthritis in a population of mice to study the disease, the researcher discovered that some mice were resistant to joint degeneration. The researcher found that mice who were resistant had naturally occurring cetyl myristoleate within their bodies.
This led to the discovery of cetyl myristoleate, a beneficial fatty acid, and launched investigations into its role in joint health. Using cetyl myristoleate in dietary form has been shown to help manage joint discomfort in humans.
Cetyl Myristoleate is a potent ingredient that helps maintain joint lubrication and healthy cartilage.
Is this joint supplement okay for show horses who may be drug tested?
